Oh, Say Can You See?

My senior year has truly been a year of firsts. From going live on a radio show to meeting Stump Merrill of the New York Yankees, my experiences this past school year have been very special to me. Truth is, I am not exactly an avid baseball fan, but baseball seems to have had a particular connection with me. Besides meeting Stump Merrill, former manager of the Yankees, I was invited, along with 16 of my schoolmates, to sing the American National Anthem at the Dodger's game in Kaohsiung.

Free tickets!

Media crew badge. So cool! I want one...

It was nearly 30 degrees that day and we had to practice in the sweltering sun, but the KAS crew still kept our energies pumped up. Through our practice, I marveled at how organized the Major League Baseball crew was. Everything we did was timed down to a precise point. There were many things to consider, such as the weight of the air (yes, you heard me right, AIR) that day and the amount of audiences, as they would absorb sound.

Singing the National Anthem sure had its perks. Free tickets to the game (which was a bit disappointing in my opinion because I didn't think the players were playing their best) and UNLIMITED access into the "staff-only" sections of the stadium, for example the press room. Also, we got to see the Dodger's practicing before the game. I can safely say that not a lot of people have this opportunity! However, we still didn't manage to get autographs from any of the players. : (

郭泓志!! He didn't play because of his wounded shoulder...I feel cheated.

I thought that we did a pretty good job. True, we weren't professionals, but we stayed on key and most importantly, we brought KAS pride. Although the Taiwanese TV stations did not air our singing, we heard that audiences in America saw our performance! Too bad we can't find any clips on YouTube.

All in all, I loved this experience, but alas, I am still not a baseball fan. Forgive me Dodgers.
